Pediatric Eye Exams

The Ontario college of optometrists recommends first eye exams to begin between ages 6 to 9 months of age.Vision screenings done at pediatrician’s office or family doctor do not constitute full comprehensive eye exams.

What to expect at child’s first eye exam? At a young age it is important to focus on eye skills that are essential for learning and school performance.

  • Essential visual acuity at all distances
  • Accurate and comfortable eye teaming skills
  • Accurate and comfortable focusing skills
  • Overall health check ups of front and back of eye

Children ages of 0-19 are covered through OHIP for a full eye exam ONCE a year!
